Sex in a box. No, that’s not quite what we’re talking about today. We’re talking about the recent trend of “experience date nights” that have been popping up all over Brisbane.
The idea is simple: instead of going to dinner and a movie, you go to an activity where you learn something new together! Whether it be cooking classes, wine tasting classes, pottery painting or even candy making – there’s so many things out there! Most places offer special discounts for multiple experiences booked at once and some will even throw in a free dessert when you do two or three activities together (obviously don’t forget this part).
Sacrificing spontaneity for practicality?
Some might argue that these experiences are too planned out and lack spontaneity. On the other hand, others would say that having a set idea of what you’re doing makes it easier to pack up the baby sitter and make it a night out!
If you find yourself bored or uninspired by date nights, these experiences might be worth trying. They are especially good if one person is more extroverted than the other. You can have fun with your partner but also do your own thing during the activity so everyone comes away happy!
So, here’s our list of suggested activities in Brisbane to spice things up on date night! This is certainly not an exhaustive list but hopefully gives you some inspiration for new experience date nights with your significant other…
#1 – Sip and paint
Paint and sip experiences are all the rage right now! They involve a bit of arts and crafts, some beverages and music to get your groove on. If you or your partner is an aspiring Kandinsky or Van Gogh you can go for something like this:
If you don’t consider yourself artistic but still want to give it a try, these places offer step by step instructions so just follow along with them!
These painting parties tend to be held in small groups which allows people to chat more than they would otherwise. Not only that but you’ll walk away with a new-found talent (or at least some good memories)!
#2 – Go wine tasting at a local winery.
Wine tasting is one of the more classy date night options in Brisbane. Going to a winery allows you to get away from the hustle and bustle of city life and enjoy some gorgeous views while making new discoveries about wine. It’s also quite interactive so you’ll be able to chat with other couples visiting the winery too! Head here for more information on Queensland Wineries .
If your partner isn’t much of a “wine person” then there are plenty of other alcoholic beverages that can be sampled when going out to taste wines!

#3 – Get active together.
This might sound a little cheesy but there are actually some fun and unique experiences that you can get up to while getting active together! For instance:
Rock climbing is a great way to spend an afternoon, especially if you’re not much of a sit down movie type! Meanwhile, trampoline parks such as Bounce Inc offer other adults only activities such as dodgeball and karaoke so feel free to add some Singstar to your date night activities. Bounce Inc also offers birthday party bookings so it’s perfect for kids too!
If you’re looking for something with less physical activity involved then escape rooms are another good option. These experiences involve solving puzzles in order for you and your partner(s) to explore.
